Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu

A one-week school holiday and Hari Raya Haji saw us taking the kids on their first trip to Sabah. 

We wanted to do KK and Sandakan over a week but reduced it to just four nights in KK.


Our MH KCH-BKI flight arrived on time. We hailed two Grab cars to Le Méridien. Booked two rooms on points before the hotel went up a category. Paid 3,000 Starpoints per night vs RM800++ they were asking for our dates.

Check-in was swift from very friendly FD staff. Platinum suite upgrade provided with connecting room for the boys on Level 10.

​The hotel was undergoing renovations so there was no executive lounge available. Food and drinks were provided on Level 2 at the poolside restaurant for Platinums/executive guests. We ate here the first two nights while watching the dramatic sunset:

Breakfast everyday was at Latest Recipe in the lobby. The food was basically the same our entire stay, which was disappointing. We had dinner here on our last night, taking advantage of Maybank VI's 40% discount:


The hotel's staff is great, particularly Rodney and Diana at the front desk. The age of the hotel clearly shows and the renovations which are underway are testament to their intent to catch up. That said, the brand new Marriott Kota Kinabalu shall be the hotel of choice should we come back to Jesselton anytime soon.
