After four nights in Club Med Beidahu we checked out at 11AM for our 11:30AM airport transfer and flew China Southern back to Beijing. The flight was identical to the PEK-CGQ leg. We arrived around 530PM in Beijing and was met by our driver upon retrieving our bags. After a 45 minute drive we arrived at the JW Marriott Beijing.
The hotel is located next to the Ritz-Carlton and SKP, a high-end shopping mall It was already dark when we arrived:
I used points to redeem two rooms at a rate of 60k Marriott Points for 5 nights per room. This equates to just 4k Starpoints per night, an absolute steal. We made our way to the Executive Lounge on Level 20 for check-in:
Although my Platinum Elite status was recognised, I had to make a request for a suite upgrade for one of the rooms. After some initial hesitation, one of our rooms were upgraded to a spacious corner suite (close to 900 sq ft), The other room was a normal club king adjacent to our suite. I was requested to pay extra for lounge access for only one of my teenage sons (all six of us will get the lounge access the entire stay) to which I agreed.
The lounge was cosy but the food & beverage offerings were mediocre. We tried breakfast at the lobby restaurant one day and found the offerings similarly uninspiring.
We ended up using the lounge a fair bit the last two days of our trip:
The hotel's location is central but traffic is very bad, especially when returning around 6-7PM.
We took the subway from SKP to Wangfujin on our final day. Although manageable, I would choose another hotel if travelling with the family. The food and beverage options were not family-friendly and the traffic jams returning to the hotel after a long day out was tiring.
