Honolulu

2 May 2014

We arrived in HNL from TPE around 3PM. Checked-in to our hotel, did some shopping at Ala Moana Centre before heading to Michel's Colony Surf for our dinner.

Reservations were made months in advance and we were rewarded with dare I say the best table in the house. We had an excellent picture perfect view of the sunset, the city lights and all.

We had the six course tasting menu for our 12th anniversary celebration with performance by Grammy award winning slack guitarist Jeff Peterson throughout the night. Gulped down the first lobster bisque course before starting to take pics.

Hawaiian yellowfin ahi with pineapple coleslaw and mango mustard on a crispy won ton (delicious!) followed by a warm cornbread crusted honokaa goat cheese with poached pears, beets & oranges.

Seared diver scallop on saffron risotto with abalone sauce and arugula (fantastic) followed by a nicely done veal tenderloin wrapped in applewood smoked bacon with mushroom sauce, roasted potatoes and Waialua asparagus.

Strawberry moscato jello and complimentary cheese cake to finish things off:

The sunset was beautiful. Ambiance was perfect and the staff professional and accommodating. Had a chat with Jeff Peterson, commending him for his performance before making our way back to our hotel.

We had an early 615AM start the next day and covered Pearl Harbor & USS Arizona Memorial:

before heading towards the Polynesian Cultural Centre, stopping at a beach along the way for some sights:

The cultural centre and luau were a tad touristy:

but I liked the evening Hā: Breath of Life show, especially the flamer's skilled performance towards the end. Simply fantastic! Finished around 1030PM and made our way back to the hotel.

On our final day I went for a morning jog from the Royal Hawaiian towards Diamond Head:

We stopped by the nearby Dukes for a quick lunch:

before heading to the airport as we made our way to San Francisco.
